The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

Steak almost rivals Italian as Long Islanders' favorite cuisine. So beefeaters have something new to beef about. Cattlemen's Steakhouse (and Saloon) just opened on Montauk Highway.

The moderately priced eatery offers steaks in the $13.99 to $19.99 range, or from skirt to porterhouse. You also can dive into "tumbleweed onions," "crazy-eyed fries," and "southern-style 'belly-bustin'' fried pickle chips."

Alternative dishes:  "San Antonio cheeseburger sliders," "gunslinger chili-cheese hot dog sliders," steak chili, pulled-pork sandwiches and burgers, from traditional to andouille-sausage productions.
