Live Island Cafe, which specialized in raw foods, has closed. The little Huntington takeout, secreted away in a small strip mall outside of the village, served the raw vegan cuisine of chef-owner Okima Wilcox-Hitt.
What I really liked there was a salad made with beet greens, collard greens, rainbow chard, baby Heirloom tomatoes, kale and asparagus. A faux tuna salad was interesting, but it was hard to accept as “pizza” a cold creation whose walnut crust was topped with cashew cheese.
Still and all, the place had a mission and a following, occupying a distinct niche.
