The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
The Currywurst Company in Long Beach has closed, following a run of two years.
The place was best known for its namesake German specialty, sausages served with curried ketchup. Here, a variety of wursts were topped with a proprietary tomato sauce sprinkled with curry powder, which was available in varying degrees of heat. Among the other German specialties served were sauerbraten, schnitzels, Bavarian pretzels and strudel.
And, of course, there was plenty of German beer, which could be ordered in a supersize boot-shaped drinking vessel. Often, there was live German music. "Oktoberfest year round" was the motto of the place.
Posted on Facebook and Instagram was an open letter to Long Beach: "A German saying goes like this: 'Everything has an end, only the sausage has two.' And we are sorry to announce that the sausage party at the Wurst has come to an end effective immediately."
