The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

In this weeks Newsday, critic Peter M. Gianotti reviews Painters in Brookhaven, whose first incarnation was ravaged by a fire in 2012. But its back, he writes, with a flavorful, all-purpose menu, if not the old pool table and chef Luis Marin, an energized orchestra leader in the open kitchen, turning out a wide variety of casual dishes.

Critic Joan Reminick visits Rockville Centres GM Burger Bar, a handsome, popular addition to the George Martin Restaurant Group which, after a rocky start a few months back, has established itself as a dependable purveyor of casual meals burger-based and burger-less.
