Peter M. Gianotti visits Ristegios in North Patchogue, where Richard Lanza, formerly of Blackstone Steakhouse in Melville, smoothly segues through New American, French, Italian and Japanese cuisines. Another familiar face at the imposing restaurant: general manager Andy Kormendi, who ran the long-gone, much-missed Louis XVI in Patchogue.
Joan Reminick reviews Joes Garage and Grill, an automotive-themed eatery in the heart of downtown Riverhead where chef Brian Burner cooks from scratch and slow-smokes on the premises. Among the dishes that deserve a victory lap: grilled shrimp over bacon grits, fried oysters with jicama slaw and excellent brisket, ribs and pulled pork.
On a sweeter note, Levittown can now lay claim to a confectionery hybrid to rival SoHos Cronut: Sweet Surrender Bake House, which succeeds New Levittown Park Bake Shop, is selling a Crannoli, a fried donut-shaped croissant filled with cannoli cream and topped with cannoli shards.
