The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

In this week's Newsday, Lauren Chattman awards two and a half stars to Harlow East in Sag Harbor, which has seamlessly slipped into the waterside spot that, for years, hosted B. Smiths, one of the longest-running shows in the Hamptons. This new outpost of a Manhattan spot offers great views with such standouts as a towering burger, unusual and very good lobster sliders and some interesting but not crazy spins on pasta, chicken, beef and fish.

The Cheap Eats column visits Brixx & Barley in Long Beach, giving a two-star rating to this cavernous and cacophonous (and sometimes chaotic) new gastropub where it can feel like a perpetual party. The smashed meatball pizza, expertly grilled burgers and delectable roasted porchetta hero are among recommendations.

And check out our guide to a dozen great local clam bars complete with mouthwatering photos of Long Island's favorite bivalve.
