The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

In this week's Newsday, Lauren Chattman awards two and a half stars to Harlow East in Sag Harbor, which has seamlessly slipped into the waterside spot that, for years, hosted B. Smiths, “one of the longest-running shows in the Hamptons.” This new outpost of a Manhattan spot offers “great views” with such standouts as a “towering” burger, “unusual and very good” lobster sliders and some “interesting but not crazy spins on pasta, chicken, beef and fish.“

The Cheap Eats column visits Brixx & Barley in Long Beach, giving a two-star rating to this “cavernous and cacophonous (and sometimes chaotic) new gastropub” where it can “feel like a perpetual party.” The “smashed meatball” pizza, “expertly grilled burgers” and “delectable roasted porchetta hero” are among recommendations.
