The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

In this week’s Newsday Peter Gianotti reviews Morrison’s in Plainview, the gastropub that takes over the space that used to be Red Fish. “Exit, kung pao calamari; enter, shrimp and grits.” Gianotti writes that “the spirited newcomer is run by Shelby Poole and co-chef Harry Poole, who also operate Jackson's in Commack.”

Joan Reminick visits Javier’s Café in Smithtown, a breakfast-lunch place owned by chef-owner Edgar “Javier” Viera. Viera, who cooked at the nearby Maureen’s Kitchen, she writes, “offers many of the same dishes he made there,” among them, lush and well-wrought omelets.
