In this weeks Newsday Peter Gianotti reviews Morrisons in Plainview, the gastropub that takes over the space that used to be Red Fish. Exit, kung pao calamari; enter, shrimp and grits. Gianotti writes that the spirited newcomer is run by Shelby Poole and co-chef Harry Poole, who also operate Jackson's in Commack.

Joan Reminick visits Javiers Cafe in Smithtown, a breakfast-lunch place owned by chef-owner Edgar Javier Viera. Viera, who cooked at the nearby Maureens Kitchen, she writes, offers many of the same dishes he made there, among them, lush and well-wrought omelets.
