M’s is the name of the newest restaurant to occupy the former Stone Turtle digs, a free-standing building that's hosted a string of short-lived eateries. With the aim of being the keeper, the place made its debut right after Superstorm Sandy. Despite losing power and much of its equipment, the restaurant managed to crank out a basic menu for its first month. According to owner John Manzo, there were two generators, a gas six-burner stove and a flat-top griddle.
Manzo said he’s geared the restaurant to families, modeling it after the old Jahn’s Ice Cream Parlor in Richmond Hill. “I decided to go retro,” Manzo said, adding that nothing he serves is previously frozen — except, of course, the ice cream. Suppliers are local whenever possible.
M's offers a simple breakfast menu as well as lunch and dinner classics like burgers served with hand-cut fries ($7), along with pizza ($7 for a 12-inch pie; $11 for a 16-inch pie). The menu, right now, is continuing to grow.
The place also has specials nights. Tuesday is American classic night featuring pot roast at $8 a person; on Wednesday, the theme is “all you can eat pasta” with salad and bread, at $11 a person.
