Macari Vineyards & Winery was named the state's "winery of the year" at the 2014 New York Wine & Food Classic. The Mattituck winery also won for "best red wine" for its 2012 cabernet franc.
Sparkling Pointe in Southold received the honors for "best sparkling wine" and "best vinifera sparkling white" wine, both for its 2005 Brut Seduction.
Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead won two awards, for "best overall chardonnay" and "best unoaked chardonnay."
Osprey's Dominion in Peconic took home the "best merlot" award for its 2010 reserve merlot; Harbes Family Vineyard in Mattituck, the "best vinifera red" prize for its 2012 Red Blend and Coffee Pot Cellars in Cutchogue was the winner for "best oaked chardonnay."
The Governor's Cup for best-of-show went to Chateau Lafayette Reneau's 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling. The winery is in the Finger Lakes region. Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy presented the silver chalice to the winery Wednesday.
Winners were chosen in blind tastings by 22 judges from New York, California and seven other states. One judge was from France. It was the 29th annual competition, held upstate in Watkins Glen.
