Agave Grill & Cantina has opened in Greenport. The polished Mexican restaurant is next door to Tikal, a fast-casual Mexican place run by different owners at the same address.

The 50-seat Agave is run by Elias Martinez, originally from Puebla, who came to New York in 1992 and worked at restaurants including Porto Bello and Vine St. Cafe on Shelter Island. The family-run business includes partners Luis Martinez, his cousin, and his brother-in-law, Victor Cruz.

Look for tamales among appetizers, as well as chili relleno and shrimp-stuffed avocado for $8 to $14, while favorite entrees range from steak fajitas to shrimp chipotle and pollo poblano with mole sauce. The $14 to $32 entrees include a few Mediterranean dishes such as lobster risotto.

Agave is open through October from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Hours will be abbreviated in the offseason.
