It’s often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The cheery new Toast & Jamz in Williston Park specializes in that meal – and lunch as well. It opened just after Thanksgiving in the former digs of Nick & Charley Steakhouse.
Co-owners Doug and Dianna Williams come from different backgrounds: He was working in the oil business; she was a waitress at Maureen’s Kitchen in Smithtown (possibly the busiest breakfast spot on LI). Check out T&J menu, and you’ll find baked oatmeal, a Maureen’s specialty.
At a recent breakfast, I was wowed by ultralight pumpkin walnut pancakes ($6.95 for three). A Cheddar, bacon and potato omelet ($. 8.50) was a heartier alternative; had the potatoes been cut thinner, the dish would have been ideal.
The most popular lunch item, I’m told, is a grilled chicken panino with sauteed spinach, roasted red peppers and caramelized onions ($8.95).
Future plans include opening for a “comfort food” dinner menu Thursday to Saturday nights. Live music may be in the cards, too.
