The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
West End GR recently made its debut in the former Long Beach digs of West End Coffee Shop. The cuisine here is Greek at both lunch and dinner. But early in the day, there’s a breakfast menu, said co-owner Nicolaos Gregoriou, adding that a morning meal has been served at the same address for years.
Chef Frank Narantzis cooked at several Greek restaurants in Astoria and Manhattan and, according to Gregoriou, makes virtually everything from scratch. Which means you can find house-made gyro, both chicken and a beef-lamb combination, as well as hand-cut sweet potato and regular fries.
On the dinner menu: Zucchini croquettes ($8.95), grilled octopus ($12.50), chicken or beef/lamb gyro on pita ($7.50; $11.50 deluxe, with fries and Greek salad), shrimp Santorini ($16.95) and a lamb kebab platter ($15.50).
West End GR is at 1042 W. Beech St., Long Beach, 516-432-7147, westendgr.com.
