The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
Azulejos Fine Mexican Cuisine is serving up enchiladas, empanadas and ceviche in the former Smithtown digs of Uncle Bacalas.
The place is owned by Joel Salas, who also owns the long-standing Viva La Vida Mexican Restaurant in Oakdale. Salas said the emphasis is on regional Mexican fare. Supplementing the menu will be a list of daily specials that includes tacos with handmade soft corn tortillas.
Currently, you'll find chorizos Chihuahua, or sliced mushroom and sausage ($9), chicken tamales ($9) and ceviche ($10). You can also get enchiladas poblanas ($14), steak fajitas ($19), mole poblano ($17) and paella Valenciana ($23).
Azulejos Fine Mexican Cuisine is at 368 E. Main St., Smithtown, 631-257-5033.
