There's always something new at 2095 Montauk Hwy., on the Napeague Stretch in Amagansett. For whatever reason, the handsome space (with a pretty outdoor deck area) just can't seem to hold on to a restaurant very long.
The newest contender is Mahon’s Seafood Shack, which follows 11 predecessors (at least that I can count): The Inn at Napeague, Napeague Restaurant, Jolson’s 95, Napeague Stretch, Sharkey’s, Pig ‘n Whistle, 27 Lobster and Surf Shack, Ocean's Grillfish & Steak, Halfshells, 27 Authentic Mexican Restaurant, and Surf Shack.
At Mahon's, chef Christian Duperray (from Marseilles) delivers an American seafood menu that lists such dishes as a house-made crab cake, grilled tuna steak, burger and the signature “Red Eats” lobster roll, inspired by the legendary eatery in Wiscasset, Maine.
Will Mahon's be here next July? One can only taste, watch and wait.
