The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
Tuesday morning at 7 a.m., Long Island gets its own Organic Avenue, at 250 South Service Road in Roslyn. With a dozen locations in Manhattan, Organic Avenue is a leading provider of organic cold-pressed juices, raw-food cleansing programs and natural beauty products as well as classes and events.
Heat is the enemy of nutrients, according to Organic Avenue. So all of its food is produced in a19,000-square-foot kitchen in Long Island City where the temperature is kept between 38 and 42 degrees. Rather than using a conventional juicer, the rapid movement of whose steel blades creates heat, Organic Avenue uses a high-tech hydraulic press.
The nutrition doesn’t come cheap. A 14-ounce bottle of Green Love (pear, lemon, kale, Swiss chard, spinach, parsley, collard greens and romaine) is $9.
Organic Avenue is located at Exit 37 of the Long Island Expressway, inside @250, the two-story, multimillion-dollar development whose tenants (among them SoulCycle and Bar Method gyms, Truth Beauty Spa) are all committed to health and wellness.
Store hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Organic Avenue is at 250 South Service Rd., Roslyn Heights, 347-244-7920.
