Paul Drum, who has been dubbed the unofficial mayor of Greenport, will be hosting his third annual Breakfast Fundraiser, a Mermaid and Pirate Experience, on Sunday from 9 to 10:45 a.m., at his family’s restaurant, Front Street Station.

Drum, who has Down syndrome, has become a North Fork celebrity after joining forces with the East End Seaport Foundation Museum to raise money for a program to teach local kids about water safety and marine ecology.

“He gives back more than most people without disabilities,” says Drum’s mom, Sharon Sailor. “He’s a shining star in the community, and an inspiring example.”

At this year’s event, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will be on hand to honor Drum as County Executive for the Day.

Accompanying a buffet breakfast will be characters straight from a seadog’s log. Pirates will read salty stories. A fully stocked treasure chest will supply parting gifts.

All proceeds go to the Paul Drum Nautical Education Fund.
