If you are in Greenport this weekend for the annual East End Maritime Festival, you can breakfast for a good cause on Sunday morning. Front Street Station is hosting the second annual Paul Drum Pirate & Mermaid Breakfast.
Drum, 30, has Down syndrome. Since his parents bought Front Street Station in 2013, he has become a familiar face at the restaurant and an unofficial mayor of Front Street. (For the weekend, he's getting an additional honor: The Southold Town Police Department is making him its chief for the day.)
The fundraiser benefits the Paul Drum Nautical Education Fund, which encourages children to safely enjoy the area's surrounding waters. Last year's breakfast raised enough money to offer seven weeks of free programs for children 8 to 12 at the East End Seaport Museum, which included educational cruises with boat Captain Dave Berson and lessons in water and boating safety from the Coast Guard.Photos78 Cheap Eats to try on LI
