The toppings at 1943 Pizza Bar in Greenport range from standard (pepperoni, mushroom) to fancy-pants (caramelized onion, pesto) to dude-food (bacon, pulled pork). Then there's the New Haven pie, which features mozzarella, bacon and little piles of buttered mashed potatoes.
Matt Michel, who owns the one-year-old pizzeria in Stirling Square, is from the New Haven Metro area and says that his hometown inspired the pie, exceptionally appealing when enjoyed at one of the Pizza Bar's outdoor tables in Greenport's Stirling Square.
