The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

It's the Second Annual BBQ Festival in Port Washington this Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. At last year’s event, Team LaDiliQ, captained by Stephen Edelson, was named Overall Champion (with the highest combined scores in the chicken and ribs contests) and they will be back this year to defend their title against 11 other teams.

Port Washington is home to a number of barbecue joints and three of them, Harbor Q, Bad Bob’s BBQ and Wings Plus (not exactly a bbq joint but a very good purveyor of wings) will be providing food during the festivities. Culininarians from Harbor Q and Wings Plus plus a representative from Weber grills will comprise the judging panel along with two civilian judges whose seats will be auctioned off during the festivities.

The winner gets a $100 gift certificate to Wings Plus (second place, $50; third place, $25). The entry fee is $20. Stop by Wings Plus (16 Haven Ave., 516-767-9647) or e-mail wingsplusny@gmail.com to enter.

All proceeds benefit the Community Chest of Port Washington. The event is free and will be held right outside Alper’s Hardware, the event sponsor,  at 81 Main St. (corner of Irma Avenue). For more information, stop by Alper’s, call 516-767-0508, visit alpershardware.com.
