Rookies Sports Club, a Huntington mainstay for televised sports and pitchers of beer, has closed after eight years.

The bar took its sports seriously, with 10 screens (eight high-definition, two giant projection) showing virtually every televised game, match or race. No matter where the Sunday pro game was played, it could be seen at Rookies via the NFL Sunday Ticket, complete with a real-time sports ticker showing scores and spreads. Each booth had a monitor so guests could choose their own event.

Rookies’ menu featured a game-friendly assortment of wings, burgers, wraps and other crowd pleasers. While it was never a fine-dining establishment, it did launch the career of Marc Bynum. Rookies’ was the first kitchen he ran, before going on to be executive chef at Tellers, an American Chophouse, in Islip, a champion on Food Network’s Chopped, and, as of 2014, chef-owner of Hush Bistro in Farmingdale.
