The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
With the launch this week of Firehouse Subs in Centereach, Long Island now has two branches of a Florida-based national franchise chain founded by firefighters. (The first Long Island branch debuted last year in Levittown.) Each restaurant is decorated with memorabilia from the local fire department. A nonprofit arm of the business, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, also aids local first responders.
The menu offers an assortment of sandwiches, some under 500 calories. Regular subs include the Firehouse meatball, smokehouse beef and Cheddar brisket and turkey bacon ranch. Weighing in at under 500 calories are a sriracha beef, turkey and cranberry and, also, a turkey salsa verde sub. Other items include chili and the signature Firehouse chopped salad, with or without your choice of meat.
Individual items range in price from $3.89 for chili to $7.99 for an Italian chopped salad with grilled chicken.
Firehouse Subs is at 17 Centereach Mall, Centereach, 631- 648-9248.
