The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.
A new Starbucks has opened at the Shops at Walt Whitman, replacing a kiosk that dispensed coffee drinks and pastries. This may not seem like much, but at this newly glammed-up mall without any fast-food options, one can now grab a sandwich from the refrigerator case and get it heated up. Or, sit down with one of the company's new line of baked goods from La Boulange.
On a recent afternoon, when time was tight and shopping seemed more important than waiting to be served, I got a chicken Santa Fe panino ($5.75), which turned out melty, spicy and altogether not bad in a pinch.
Other openings to watch for at Walt Whitman: Brio Tuscan Grille, P.F. Chang's China Bistro and Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar.
Starbucks Coffee is in the same wing as Saks Fifth Avenue at Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station, 631-423-1392.
