Want the skinny on the new pizzeria in Roslyn Heights? The contemporary counter-service spot is already packing in crowds. Everyone, it seems, wants a piece of the pie, with its thin (make that skinny) crust.
Currently, calorie stats aren’t back from the lab, but co-owners Joe Vetrano and Michael Tenedorio maintain their product is probably lower in carbs and calories than the majority of mainstream pies. Healthier too, since most ingredients are all-natural (when possible, organic) and meats are both hormone- and antibiotic-free.
Bottom line, for me, is that the pizza tastes very good – and is available not only by the whole pie ($8 to $12.50 for 10-inch personal pies, $13.50 to $23 for 16-inch pizzas) but also by the slice ($2.50 to $3.50).
Of those tasted on a recent visit, front-runners were the bright Margherita (fresh and part skim mozzarella, Romano cheese, marinara sauce and fresh basil), as well as the rich, deeply flavorsome Skinny 'shrooms pie (shiitake, porcini and cremini mushrooms with olive oil, roasted garlic and a light cream sauce on a whole wheat crust).
Next time, though, I'll pass on the Skinny Mex, topped with ground beef, jalapeño, cilantro, Cheddar, organic tomatoes, onions and sauce, ingredients much better suited to a burrito.
The menu also lists salads, soups, wraps and pastas. I can vouch for the flavor (if not the dietetic virtues) of the farfalle with a vibrant pesto sauce as well as the whole wheat penne Bolognese.
Gluten free pastas and pizza crusts are also available.
