New to the burgeoning Kings Park dining scene is Sombrero’s Southwest Grill, a Tex-Mex/Central American eatery under the same ownership as the nearby Dixie’s Smokehouse BBQ and Anderson's Deli. Executive chef Rogelio Nunez hails from Honduras.
I stopped into the hacienda-like building for a quick look. Some diners, I observed, were moving down a line and selecting from steam table offerings. Others were taking advantage of table service, which is only available at dinner.
Sombrero's menu includes fajitas of all kinds — grilled or Buffalo-style chicken, steak, pork carnitas and fire roasted vegetables ($9.99) as well as shrimp ($10.99). The same ingredients show up in a build-your-own burrito option ($7.49 to $8.99). You can, alternatively, get crisp corn or soft flour tacos ($2.39 to $3.69) as well as a variety of salads ($6,99 to $8,99).
Owner Mike Franchi said that the restaurant's outdoor patio should be open within the next week or so.
