Souper Bowl VI, the sixth annual contest of Port Washington’s best soups, was played on Saturday and both the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice awards went to Sullivan’s Quay for its coconut-butternut squash soup. “People were practically swooning,” reported Bobbie Polay, executive director of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, which organized the event.
The winning soup is a frequent special on Sullivan’s Quay’s menu where, according to the restaurant’s manager Catherine O’Neill, it is always a big hit. “That’s why we decided to enter it,” she said. Starting tomorrow night — and into the foreseeable future — you’ll be able to order it every day ($6, bowl; $4, cup).
Souper Bowl’s Judges’ Choice runners-up were the tortilla soup from Main Street Bakery & Café and the chicken-noodle soup from Frank’s Pizza. The runners-up for the People’s Choice were the potato-leek soup from Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café and the tortilla soup from Main Street Bakery & Café.
