The succession of Korean eateries at 1087 Jericho Tpke. in Commack has ended. Gourmet Paradise, serving sushi and Asian fusion, has taken over the building that, since 2000, has housed a succession of Korean restaurants: Dory, Sil L Joung, Ko Gu Ryo, Dori and, the last, New Dori.

Jason Shi, the owner, worked in Ala Shanghai restaurant near Albany after coming north from Alabama.

The menu at Gourmet Paradise is mostly sushi, with a traditional lineup of sushi a la carte and entrees (sushi dinner is $16). Chef’s special rolls include the M16 with spicy salmon and cucumber inside, salmon and tuna outside ($9.95) and the monkey roll with shrimp tempura and avocado inside, banana and miso outside ($8.95). Among “fashion super special” dishes are the fashion sandwich with deep-fried zucchini, spicy tuna, crabmeat, avocado, black tobiko and special sauce ($11.95).

From the kitchen: Japanese (ramen, tempura, teriyaki), Thai (pad Thai) and Chinese (General Tso’s chicken).

Shi said that in addition to regular sushi bar offerings, he would be getting live fish delivered by air directly from the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo but that, for now, customers would have to reserve it in advance.
