Buying Powerball tickets and dreaming about ways to spend $1.6 billion became a national pastime this month. All that ended when three winning tickets were drawn on Wednesday night.
But if you participated in the madness, all is not lost. The Naked Chicken Co. in Massapequa feels your pain, and to help ease it is offering a 10 percent discount to anyone bringing in a losing ticket, through Jan. 22. All menu items are included.
Powerball dreamers also can drop off their losing tickets at the restaurant with their contact information on the back to be entered in the restaurant’s own lottery. One lucky winner will win four $25 gift cards for Naked Chicken food.
Owned and operated by Trufoods, the franchise brand that owns Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips, among other chains, Naked Chicken, formerly Pudgie’s Famous Chicken, has undergone a metamorphosis over the past year and a half. Regional director of operations Paul Gucciardo says there are healthy choices. The reimagined menu includes more grilled chicken, salads, rice bowls and chicken wings with a dozen different sauces. The fried items are all cooked in 100 percent soybean oil, he said. The Massapequa store is a prototype. Plans for franchise eateries across Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut are in the works.
In the meantime, go to Massapequa with your losing stub to sample a grilled chicken Cobb salad (regularly $9.99) or an Asian rice bowl with crispy or grilled chicken (regularly $7.49). Order chicken, fried or grilled, by the piece. Or opt for a big ol’ bucket ($13.99 for 8 pieces, $19.99 for 12 pieces, $25 for 16 pieces, $31.99 for 20 pieces), sides and honey butter corn biscuits extra.
Naked Chicken delivers within Massapequa and Massapequa Park, but the promotion is in-store only.
The Naked Chicken Co. is at 7 Hicksville Rd., Massapequa, 516-799-2445.
