There’s a new player on Main Street in Islip from George Dourmas. It’s called The Plate: An Italian-American Restaurant and Bar, and it has taken over the space that had been Medley’s.

The Plate opened across the street and a few blocks away from Pizza Parm, the newest place from the Bohlsen Restaurant Group that opened in March.

What’s the difference between the two restaurants? The Plate offers a more tailored dining room – in a black, red and gray palette – a full bar and table service. Pizza Parm emphasizes pizza, of course, takeout and is super casual, with a kitchen open until 2 a.m. weekends.

On the menu at The Plate, look for braciole and broccoli rabe, eggplant rollatini and lobster ravioli, with soup, salads, appetizers and sides from $7 to $23, burgers and pasta from $10 to $22 and entrees from $18 to $38.

The Plate is open from 11 a.m. to midnight, Monday to Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and noon to midnight on Sunday. Hours subject to change.

The Plate: An Italian-American Restaurant and Bar is located at 526 Main St. Islip, 631-650-1515, theplateli.com.
