The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

This week, Peter Gianotti strikes it rich at Heirloom Tavern, a new gastropub in Glen Head.  Chef Kent Monkan earns three stars. Monkan builds on his success at The Brass Rail in Locust Valley as well as at Heirloom, its predecessor. “Basically,” Gianotti says of Monkan, “you can eat very well following the Huntington native around Long Island.”

Joan Reminick's Cheap Eats column checks out Bottomz Up in Carle Place, a so-called “breastaurant” where “fetching young waitresses decked out in short shorts and tank tops serve up a surprisingly ambitious menu from well-credentialed chef Adam Goldgell.” Goldgell’s fare, along with a satellite dinnertime sushi bar from nearby Shiro of Japan, earns the place two stars.
