Aquebogue’s Petulant Wino has closed. Opened by serial restaurateur Tom Schaudel and his daughter Courtney in 2014, the restaurant at the gateway to the North Fork featured small plates, local wine, good drinks and a generally genial atmosphere.

Courtney Schaudel said that the time was right for her and her partner, chef Lenny Campanelli, to pursue other ventures. Schaudel will be heading to Greenport to help out at her father’s A Lure Restaurant Chowder House & Oysteria, which opens for the season on March 14. Campanelli will take over the kitchen at A Mano, the Schaudel joint in Mattituck. (Tom Schaudel also owns Jewel Restaurant in Melville.)

As for the gracious, wide-porched building (that was Comtesse Therese Bistro before Petulant Wino), it won’t be idle for long. John Gambino, who was a partner at Baby Moon in Westhampton, is the chef-owner of a new Italian restaurant called Il Giardino. He hopes to open in April.
