Jewel Restaurant in Melville, Tom Schaudels splashy restaurant, has been selected by Wine Enthusiast magazine as one of Americas best 100 wine restaurants. It was the only restaurant on Long Island to make the list, and one of only three in New York State that are not in New York City. (The other two are Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills and Crabtrees Kittle House in Chappaqua.)

The magazine praised Jewels wine list, which offers a balance of selections from the Old and New World, with more than 30 percent of the 350 selections drawn from Long Island. It singled out as a perfect pairing Cutchogues Waters Crests 2007 Grand Vin Cabernet Franc with the kitchens miso-glazed Crescent Farms duck breast with duck fried rice, parsnip puree and candied kumquat.
