The polar vortex can’t chill the North Fork’s farm-to-table mojo: This Saturday marks the inauguration of a new indoor farmers market in the old Swezey’s building on Main Street in Riverhead.
The market is sponsored by the Town of Riverhead and the Riverhead Business Improvement District. Organizer Holly Browder will be bringing eggs from Browder’s Birds in Mattituck. Other comestibles include preserves from A Taste of the North Fork in Southold, wine from Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue, mushrooms from Long Island Mushroom in Cutchogue, cheese from Goodale Farms in Aquebogue and Mecox Bay Dairy in Water Mill, fish from Merken Fisheries, soda from Miss Lady Small Batch Root Beer in Wainscott, beer from Moustache Brewing Co. in Riverhead, oysters and smoked fish from Race Rock Oysters in Orient, coffee from Tend Coffee in Shirley, empanadas from Gula Gula Empanadas in East Hampton and yogurt from Kalypso Greek Yogurt.
Lia Fallon, executive chef of the Riverhead Project, will be manning a “chef’s table,” and dispensing instruction, advice and tastes from her menu.
