Feed Me

The dish on Long Island's restaurant and food scene.

As if making great ice cream weren’t enough, Ana Mocete makes a mean Cuban sandwich at her ice-cream parlor, In the Mood. She uses good a good ciabatta roll and she’ll spread the bread with mustard if you want, but she told me that the most traditional spread is butter. Who am I to argue with butter?

As it happens, Mocete’s Cuban is heavy on the pickle slices, and they add the perfect note of sour to the pork, ham and Swiss cheese. No mustard necessary. The sandwich was beautifully grilled and, at $6.49, was plenty big enough for two.

But In the Mood is a place where you definitely don’t want to fill up on a sandwich. Not when there is is “coffee break” and “espresso chunk” ice cream on offer.

In the Mood is at 151 Woodbury Rd., 516-367-8930, longislandicecream.com.
