While Brazil weeps in its collective caipirinha, you can stay festive with another South American cocktail, the pisco sour of Peru.
This taste of Peru is available at Manka, newly opened in Glen Cove. The Peruvian restaurant also provides an introduction to some of the most refined, eclectic fare from Latin America.
A pisco sour typically contains two ounces of pisco, the grape spirit popular in Peru and Chile. It's completed with three-quarters of an ounce of lime juice, the same amount of simple syrup, an egg white, and Angostura bitters. Shake all with ice, except the bitters. Strain into a Champagne flute, and add a dash or two of the bitters.
Then, eat ceviche. Manka offers corvina, shrimp, blood clams and mixed seafood. And try the octopus salad, stuffed whipped potatoes and a grilling of sausage, pork chops, skirt steak, short rib and veal hearts, plus rotisserie chicken.
You'll be fortified for the next confrontation with the German team.
