Celebrity wines and spirits
In business, diversification is the key to longevity. So if your day job is, say, hip-hop mogul or actor, why not back up the bank account with an investment in a vineyard or distillery? These stars have picked their poison and made it available for purchase. Salud! (Do note you'll need to be at least 21 to click into the following websites.)
KENNY CHESNEY: Apparently, country singers drink more than beer and bourbon. Witness Blue Chair Bay Rum, which Chesney (left) released in May in flavors including coconut spiced; bluechairbayrum.com.
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE: The 901 Tequila website claims the singer and co-founder "has a passion for tequila." Produced at the Tequilera Newton distillery in Jalisco, Mexico, "901 is where the evening ends and the night begins," Timberlake explains on 901.com.
FERGIE: The singer partnered with her father Pat in forming Ferguson Crest wines in 2006. Naturally, they produced a Fergalicious wine, in 2011; fergusoncrest.com.
Andrea Bocelli: You know Andrea Bocelli (left, with brother Alberto) as a world-famous tenor, but the family business is wine. Making vino for more than 130 years, Bocelli Family Wines has vineyards in Lajatico, Tuscany, Italy; bocellifamilywines.com.
PHARRELL WILLIAMS: After the pressure of a long day of producing and/or performing, sometimes Williams just wants to knock back a vodka-based cream liquor. Housed in a bottle perhaps better befitting perfume, take your pick from strawberry or peach Qream; qreamwithaq.com.
GEORGE CLOONEY: Imagine the actor knocking about his 18th century Italian villa drinking a fine vintage of ... tequila. Casamigos, which Clooney founded with friends Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford's husband) and Mike Meldman, is a small-batch tequila made in Jalisco, Mexico; casamigostequila.com.
MARILYN MANSON: It's hard not to love the name of singer Manson's absinthe: Mansinthe. It's made in Switzerland, but Mansinthe fans can get it in the U.S. too; mansinthe.com.
MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN: The Tool frontman not only gets his hands in the dirt at his Merkin Vineyards, he's picked a lesser-known spot to do so: Northern Arizona. According to his website, caduceus.org, Keenan and his wife Jennifer produce about 4,500 cases of wine a year.
BRAD PITT AND ANGELINA JOLIE: The much-hyped Miraval is from our most famous export, Pitt and Jolie. The couple's wine, made from grapes grown in the south of France at Chateau Miraval, sells for about $24.99; miravel-provence.com.
DAN AYKROYD: The actor co-founded Crystal Head Vodka (crystalheadvodka.com) with artist John Alexander and also has his name on Dan Aykroyd Wines (danaykroydwines.com), produced in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.
DREW BARRYMORE: The former party girl (we remember "Little Girl Lost" well) sells a pinot grigio "in honor of her family" (per barrymorewines.com). Odd, considering father John Barrymore was a famous drunk? Perhaps. But you will, the site notes, detect notes of apricot and citrus.
SEAN COMBS: The music mogul's relationship with Ciroc vodka began as an endorsement deal and ended in a partnership, with P Diddy getting half of the profits; ciroc.com.
BETHENNY FRANKEL: Even though she sold the calorie-minded Skinnygirl Cocktails in 2011, the "Real Housewives of New York" star remains closely associated with the brand, including smiling on skinnygirlcocktails.com surrounded by the bottled cocktails, flavored vodkas and wines that share the label.
