Wine makes a neat fit in the category of last-minute gifts. Consider these for the lucky recipient.

The elegant 2012 CADE Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($64) delivers ripe fruit, cassis and vanilla notes, and excellent company for the holiday roast.

From the Mount Veeder Winery, the 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($44), a lively red with hints of berries and pepper and a cassis-driven finish is ideal with steak.

Ponzi Vineyards unveils the plummy and peppery 2014 Ponzi Tavola Pinot Noir ($25) and the layered, aromatic, red-fruit-loaded 2013 Ponzi Willamette Valley Pinot Noir ($40).

The 2012 Lynmar Estate Quail Hill Pinot Noir ($60) uncorks with suggestions of strawberry and plum; the 2012 Lynmar Estate Quail Hill Chardonnay ($55) comes through with pear and peach.

Buty Winery stands out with the stirring 2012 Buty Rediviva of the Stones Rockgarden Estate ($60), a syrah star from Walla Walla Valley that’s a floral and red-fruit-forward choice. Also look for the complex cabernet sauvignon, the 2012 Columbia Rediviva Phinny Hill Vineyard ($55).

Start bubbling with the Mumm Napa Brut Prestige ($22), a crisp, citrusy sparkler; and the berry-full Mumm Napa Brut Rose ($24). The Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs (each $22) are fragrant, creamy and versatile.

And, for a special gift, consider in the 2003 Krug Brut ($259), a gilded Champagne. The year was challenging; the harvest, early. But the wine is wonderful, with citrus, flowers and great finesse, from the pinnacle of producers.

The celebration begins.
