Apparently, I missed National Chocolate Milk Powder Day April 4. Not choosing to live in the past, my pint glass is already chilling for National Beer Day on Sunday.
But how to celebrate? Merely cracking open a favorite ale seems too quotidian; this is, after all, a national holiday.
So let's turn to some experts.
The folks at The Boston Beer Company teamed with celebrity chef David Burke ("Top Chef Masters"), who developed some beer-themed recipes. Here are a couple to help make your National Beer Day a tasty one.
BOSTON LAGER ICE CREAM FLOAT
2 scoops dulce de leche ice cream
1 12-ounce bottle Samuel Adams Boston Lager
1 tsp. agave syrup
Combine Boston Lager and agave syrup. Place two scoops of ice cream in float glass. Pour in beer/agave mixture. Top with fresh nutmeg and fresh cinnamon to taste. Serves one.
CHEESE "BURKER" SLIDERS WITH BOSTON LAGER KETCHUP
20 small burger buns or English muffins, halved
40 ounces ground beef
4 bottles Samuel Adams Boston Lager
40 slices American cheese, cut in 1 inch x 1 inch pieces
20 Tomato Skewers
2 cup ketchup
2 cup mayonnaise
4 tbsp. Boston Lager
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix ingredients for ketchup together. Set aside.
3. Slice English muffins in half. Scoop out half of the bread on the bottom portion.
4. Toss beef with lager.
5. Fill bottoms of English muffins with 2 ounces of ground beef, then place on sheet pan upside down (on meat side) to brown meat for 3 minutes in oven.
6. Remove from oven and top meat with cheese and thinly sliced pickles and top of English muffin.
7. Heat in oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from heat and skewer with tomato. Serve immediately with ketchup.
Makes 20 mini sliders.
