Last summer I went on a winery bike tour with Adventure Cycles & Sports (516-755-2453) out of Farmingdale. This summer, they're at it again, kicking off their five-trip schedule this weekend.

While driving (or trolly-ing or limo-ing) from vineyard to vineyard is one way to see the sights of the North Fork, there's something special about actually biking yourself from one destination to the next.

The trips meet at the Mattituck LIRR station and include some quick instruction in bike safety. The group, up to 25 people total, strap on helmuts and head out for 16 miles of easy riding, stops at three area vineyards and a gourmet picnic lunch. Tastings at each vineyard, plus unlimited water and light snacks, are included for the $135 per person cost. Bike rentals are also available.

My tour stopped at Peconic Bay Winery, Bedell Cellars and Shinn Estate Vineyards. Call ahead to find out where each tour will visit.
