Looking for ideas for a spring or summer getaway that won't take a lot of driving or a trip to the airport? Amazon has expanded from books to bookings, with deals for short-term hotel stays almost in your backyard.

Amazon Destinations is limited to only three areas, but the Northeast is one of them. (The other two are the Pacific Northwest and Southern California.) There are eight Northeast spots where you can get lodging reservations: the Poconos, the Catskills, Vermont, the Adirondacks, New Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania Dutch country, Finger Lakes and -- if you don't want to stray from Long Island -- the Hamptons. The new service puts Amazon in direct competition with other popular online travel sites, including Priceline and Expedia.
