Each September, the government rolls out initiatives and reminders to warn seniors about the dangers of falling. While fall prevention month is only 30 days out of the year, the goal is to keep you upright for all 365 days.

The National Institute on Aging offers several resources on its website, including easy exercises you can do at home

to improve your balance (bit.ly/

NIA-exercises) and a preventing falls tip sheet (bit.ly/NIA-preventfalls).

And Suffolk County and the Huntington Public Library are presenting "Staying Independent for Life," a free workshop focused on fall prevention. The workshop is at the Huntington Library's main branch on Main Street on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. It is open to everyone, but registration is required. Call 631-427-5165.
