The winter snowstorms are over, but it doesn't mean everything is all clear. Spring and summer can also bring damaging weather. And there's always the possibility of an unexpected disaster. But unexpected doesn't mean you can't be prepared.

"Safeguarding Seniors When Disaster Strikes," a conference aimed at health care professionals and seniors, will offer tips that can raise the odds of surviving in an emergency. The free conference begins at 8:30 a.m. April 22 at the Holiday Inn in Westbury with a continental breakfast. Registration is required by Wednesday, April 15.

The conference features three workshops, but the one of most interest to seniors is Session C, where you will learn how to be prepared for a disaster. Included in the talk will be instructions on how to put together a disaster kit. For more information, go to nwsdy.li/prepare. To register, call 516-292-1300 ext. 2223.
