Gift-giving season is not over. The federal government wants to send you a free package that can keep you healthy in 2014.

The FDA's Office of Women's Health has put together a collection of seven publications covering a range of health concerns. Included are pamphlets on controlling cholesterol and high blood pressure, identifying health scams and recognizing and treating depression and sleep problems. There also is a helpful fact sheet on how to use medicines wisely.

Included is one of the government's most popular publications: The 160-page "Consumer Action Handbook," a compendium of information covering multiple topics, including maximizing retirement benefits, disability insurance and nutrition. The handbook has several pages of contacts for government agencies and consumer-product companies.

Publications are available in English and Spanish. To order a packet, go to bit.ly/usagov-pubs. Phone orders are not accepted.
