Turning 50 this year? You're far from alone in hitting the half-century milestone in 2014. There are plenty of boomers who will be getting their AARP cards in the mail, and the website Mental Floss has put together a list of 50 people and things marking the Big 5-0 this year. Some may surprise you.

For example, No. 1 on the list is the TV show "Jeopardy!" Art Fleming hosted the show on NBC, starting in 1964. Alex Trebek didn't take the helm until 1984 -- a mere 30 years ago.

The Hess toy truck festively gift wrapped under many a boomer's Christmas tree also was introduced in 1964, as was G.I. Joe, the movie "Dr. Strangelove: or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb," Lucky Charms cereal, "The Addams Family," Buffalo wings, the Moog Synthesizer and the 8-track cartridge.
