Volunteering to help others also helps you. Numerous studies show that when older adults volunteer, their emotional and physical health improve.

Nassau's Family and Children's Association and Suffolk's Family Service League are looking for volunteers for the Ombudservice program, a state-mandated service handled locally by these two charitable organizations. As a member of the volunteer force, you will be sent to a nearby nursing home or assisted living center where you will be an advocate for patients, many of whom are too sick or frail to speak for themselves. Training begins next month.
