There was a time when our most sensitive documents were kept in a locked desk drawer or safe-deposit box, away from prying eyes. These days, details about our lives and finances often are unsafely stored on unlocked smartphones, tablets and computers, making it easier for a hacker or scam artist to steal not only your money but your identity.

You can learn how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft at Cold Spring Harbor Library on Thursday.
