Back in the 1930s and 1940s, New Year’s Eve was a big night for the nation’s Big Bands and orchestras, as they held performances at concert halls and ritzy hotels. This year, expect several New Year’s Eve concerts, including annual events from two of Long Island’s most popular music ensembles.

Swingtime Big Band is celebrating the New Year, the 100th anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s birth and the 50th anniversary of his iconic recording “Sinatra at the Sands.” The concert, at the Madison Theatre at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, begins at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31. Tickets are $50, but seniors get a $10 discount. Call 516-323-4444.

And the Long Island Philharmonic holds its annual New Year’s Eve concert at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Greenvale starting at 7:30 p.m. This year’s event features the Broadway songbook of Lerner & Loewe. Tickets are $58-$113. Call 631-293-2222.
