The 2012 winner was Herman Eli Soblick of Franklin Square. According to the county's website, Soblick, born in 1924, is a retired educator and "has spent countless volunteer hours working with and on behalf of our youth and today is a tireless volunteer for his local senior citizen organization."

To be eligible, the senior cannot be an employee of any social-service organization, unless he or she is an unpaid volunteer.

Nominations must be submitted on an official application form. To get one, call 516-227-8919, or email Michele.Greenblatt@hhsnassaucountyny.us. Nominations must be received by April 1.
