Lockdown lifted at Cranbury Elementary School

School officials say shots were heard outside Cranberry Elementary School.

NORWALK - A lockdown was put into effect at Cranbury Elementary School in Norwalk today, but has since been lifted.

Police say a teacher reported hearing what sounded like gunfire outside shortly before 11:30 a.m.

As many as 30 police officers responded to the scene and searched the surrounding area. After an investigation, authorities said they were confident the call was a false alarm.

School administrators say they followed emergency protocol by locking down the building as officers investigated the matter.

There were no injuries and the school has been deemed safe by authorities.
