Life on Long Island
Long Island Music Conference in Atlantic Beach
Borrowing inspiration from one of dance music's most celebrated annual events, the Long Island Music Conference gets going Sept. 8 and 9 at the Wave Summer Club, located at The Sands At Atlantic Beach.
Co-hosted by the AMak event group, it’s to be a two-day beat bash, both outdoors and near the shore (via an extremely large deck and swimming pool), set to take advantage of the remaining late-summer heat -- a vibe that should seem familiar to anyone who has attended the original Southern event, the Winter Music Conference.
Every spring since 1985, the Winter Music Conference has been held in Miami, and it’s a weeklong mega-gathering that brings together much of the dance world -- DJs, artists, producers and record label representatives, not to mention hundreds, if not thousands of genre enthusiasts who fly in from around the world. The event includes dozens of parties, seminars, sessions and other get-togethers that feature cutting-edge EDM and brand new tracks.
The Long Island Music Conference won’t be anything near that scope, but for area fans of the kind of dance music that gets things pumping (and yes, that definitely includes fists) this weekend bash should be an appropriate event. Each day starts at 11 a.m. at the Wave Summer Club, The Sands At Atlantic Beach, 1395 Beech St., 516-371-4000, wavesummerclub.com. All attending can cut loose with their moves around the spacious deck or in the 10,000 square-foot heated pool.
To get everyone in motion, this double-day soiree will offer a lineup of no less than 23 DJs (scheduled), including such well-known local talents as Gina Marie, Loki and Louie Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 8, leading up to the main attraction of the day, DJ Dimitri.
Often found working at such venues as GLO in Westbury and the Neptune Beach Club in Hampton Bays, Dimitri (also known as Dim) has spun his powerful style of house around the country and overseas. He’s certainly a star on the scene, but come the second day of the LIMC on Sunday, Sept. 9, the roster of mixers will lead up to a truly well-known celebrity DJ Pauly D of "Jersey Shore" reality show fame.
Launching his career from the tremendous heights of cultural popularity that he and his cast mates reached with five (and soon to be six) seasons of the MTV series, Pauly (Paul DelVecchio) has established himself as a national star on the dance club circuit.
As one might imagine, his fame alone is often a heavy draw, so anyone interested in getting a ticket should probably move quickly. One-day passes are $30 each; an all-weekend access pass is $50. Age of admission is 18; attire should be summer, swim-style gear, with advance entry purchase possible at wantickets.com.
Those who decide not to drive to the party can arrange transportation by emailing email@example.com or calling 516-780-5322.
